The first time that I worked with clay is
when my great uncle took me to the Mississippi rver and he
dug some river clay and he showed me how to make little birds
with my hands. We dried them in the sun and left them for the
river to take back. That first experience of molding an everyday
available material with my own hands changed how I viewed my
own abilities in relation to the natural world around me.
Later I worked easily with hand building,
and then on the wheel with slipcasting, porcelain and raku,
which was exciting and dazzling in its process and paved the
way for me to work with glass.
