Sculpture
I enjoy creating scupture- it seems a luxury in
a down economy to create anything nonfunctional- but I try to create
work that at least confronts the viewer with ideas.
To the right are
a few examples of some of my favorite mixed media scuptures.
Door Knob Bell Jar addresses preservation as stagnation-
the inability to move through to the future.
Prothesis for a lateral move is just
that- a nonfunctioning support device.
Southern Spice Rack is
a collection of objects form my great grandmothers and grandmothers
yard, placed in my great great aunts spice jars.
Hurricane vessels
were created as a result of living below sea level and to create
concious awareness of that on an everyday level. They are
are full of water that needs to contantly be replenished. The art
needs to be "tended" and in doing so- the viewer is confronted with
the idea of the extinguished flame inside a hurricane sleeve by
a large amount of water. In the gallery installation these were
accompanied by a constantly playing weather radio. Of the ones sold,
one owner tended the hurricane vessel and placed it near sunlight
where it grew algae and became a living space- hosting all sorts
of microscopic creatures. Others left untended by their owners,
saw the wax clouds collapse and deform.
High Water Mark was also created as a result of living below sea
level and to create concious awareness of that on an everyday level. |
